||Gold Medal II alto in silver plate, s/n 25xxx. If you know about SML saxophones, you'll know that only 26000 or so were ever made and they have a dedicated following. A quick internet search should give you background information. Handmade French instruments, they are often described as having a sound somewhere between a Selmer and a Conn, although I think they have their own sound completely. Intonation is excellent (I use a Vandoren V16 A6S+ on this sax), keywork is modern, although you need to get used to the signature SML bell key cluster, particularly the low C#. A very refined saxophone with excellent build quality. The sax seals from top to bottom and I regularly play it on gigs, but it could benefit from a service. I am based in London and you are free to try it. I really like this alto but it is one of four that I own.
