c 1925 French Viola, Lutherie Artistique, M Couturieux. This instrument was played by my mother in various orchestras in the Isle of Wight during the 1940s and 1950s. It is French and believed to have been made around 1925. The label inside reads (see photo): Lutherie Artistique,M Couturieux.Dimensions are: Length of back: 40 cm. Total Length: 66 cm. Weight: 700 grm. The instrument has been recommissioned by Bill McConnell in Canterbury and has new Corelli Crystal strings, bridge, peg set, sound post and chin rest. It also has a new modern case that replaces the original “coffin" style case. This is a good quality instrument from an acknowledged maker that has a beautiful tone and is suitable for an accomplished musician. |
